This project extends the trajectory of the earlier linework drawing series. The title of this piece plays on the familiar expression “read between the lines,” suggesting the possibility of a secondary interpretation beyond what is immediately visible. In this work, that secondary reading becomes the subject itself. The visual and chromatic effects produced through the interaction of parallel lines are explored as a means of generating form and color. In art, the term linework refers to the use of lines to define shape and form without a significant reliance on shading or tonal variation. Here dense fields of overlapping vertical linework creates implied figures, allowing squares, triangles, circles, and hexagons to emerge through variations in overlap rather than through explicit outlines. Form is therefore perceived as a consequence of relationships between lines rather than as a directly drawn object. Additional effects arise through shifts in color. Combinations of primary and secondary hues generate tertiary colors, with subtle variations depending on the sequence, density, and origin of the lines. Changes in line weight introduce further distinctions, producing a range of visual and optical color effects. While the palette and technique are intentionally reductive, they give rise to a broad matrix of possible outcomes. Through the simple manipulation of line, color, and overlap, the work explores how complex visual phenomena can emerge from limited means, often producing effects that reveal themselves through sustained observation.
